Retire & Roam

Almost impossible journeys, for travellers with plenty of time. Great Wild Journey is the first volume.

While I was writing this guide with the invaluable help of Miles Wayfinder, my thoughts went beyond the United States, to dozens of other wonderful places around the world that ask for a lot of time if you want to truly live them. So here is the promise: Great Wild Journey is only the first volume of a series of guides to almost impossible itineraries, to be travelled with plenty of time. For me, ideally in the second half of life, when the only boss I answer to will be myself.

It is not meant as a rule. Anyone who can take on journeys like Great Wild Journey, or the ones in the rest of the series, while still working is more than welcome: I’ll be happy (and a little envious) to know they are on the road with my guides.

That is why the series is called Retire & Roam: given how long they are, these are journeys I will only be able to make once I retire. In the meantime I study them, sketch them and plan them with passion and care, already travelling in my imagination through the pages of the internet in search of useful information.

And since it all began with the travelling salesman problem, on the day I set off I will finally be, as Miles puts it, “no longer a salesman, just a traveller”.
