Privacy and cookie policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026. This policy explains what personal data the Great Wild Journey website collects, why and for how long, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation 2016/679) and Italian law.
Data controller
Domenico Clementi, author of the guidebook «Great Wild Journey». For any privacy request: GreatWildJourney.USA.parks@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
- Readers' area. To get in you give us your email address and answer a question about the book. We keep your email, the date of your first and last access, your language and, only if you choose to, your consent to receive updates. We don't ask for a password. Legal basis: providing the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); for updates, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
- Contact form. Name, email, reason for contacting us, your message and, if you give it, how you would like to be credited. We use them only to reply and, if you send a suggestion for the guide, to consider it. Legal basis: your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our interest in answering readers (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Technical data. Like any website, the hosting provider logs technical request data for security (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type). We don't use it to profile you. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (Art. 6(1)(f)).
We don't use analytics, advertising or profiling tools, and we never sell or share your data.
How long we keep it
- Readers' area email: while the readers' area is active, or until you ask us to delete it.
- Contact form messages: up to 24 months after our reply, then deleted.
- Technical data: for the period set by the hosting provider, usually a few days.
Who processes data on our behalf
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and stores the list of readers and the contact form messages.
- Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.) sends the author an email alert when a contact form message arrives.
Both are based in the United States: data transfers rely on the safeguards provided by the GDPR (the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for certified companies, or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses).
Maps and external links
In the readers' area the maps load images from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation): your browser connects to their servers, which receive your IP address, but no cookies are set. The «Google», «Navigate», «Route on Google Maps» and «Park maps» buttons open external sites (Google Maps, NPMaps and others) only when you press them; from then on those sites' policies apply. The site's fonts and map library are hosted on our own site, with no connection to Google Fonts or other services.
Cookies and browser storage
The site only uses technical tools that it needs to work. The law does not require consent for these, which is why there is no cookie banner.

Your rights
At any time you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its use, receive it in a readable format, and withdraw your consent to updates. Just write to GreatWildJourney.USA.parks@gmail.com: we reply within 30 days. If you believe your data is being handled improperly you can complain to the Italian Data Protection Authority (garanteprivacy.it) or to the authority in your country.
